As a custom manufacturer, it is our goal to effectively develop the most efficient processes in the lab while integrating that development with the planned scale-up efforts. With many years of experience, the laboratory staff are experts at handling materials under inert atmospheres to maintain overall raw material and product quality and integrity.
State-of-the-art techniques such as HTE, design-of-experiments and lab automation are used to accelerate the development effort. Additionally, in many cases, on-line, process analytical techniques are used to follow the extent of reaction to more accurately define process parameters and requirements. Extensive analytical capabilities including infrared and X-ray spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and scanning electron microscopy are also available at our Research Centers.
For further scale-up, Akzo Nobel operates a dedicated pilot plant unit in Deventer (the Netherlands.
A close cooperation between the laboratory and pilot plant functions leads to a focused and rapid development of an optimized commercial process within shorter time horizons.
