Akzo Nobel supplies a wide range of additives from plants worldwide and draws on a rich production and technology base. These additives include slip and antiblocking additives, antistatic additives and electroconductive carbons, all used in a variety of polymers.
We have a long history in additives technology, especially on the slip and antistatic additives which are based on the fatty amide and amine chemistry that originated with Armour and Company in the late 1930’s. We have a leading position in the electroconductive carbon market through our joint venture Ketjenblack International Corporation (KBIC). KBIC has been supplying electroconductive carbons through Akzo Nobel since the mid 1980's.
One of our best assets is our technical staff with experience across this broad range of technology. Polymer Additives is a core business for Akzo Nobel Polymer Chemicals with a commitment to serve the polymer industry through reliability, innovation and continuous improvement.
Our Polymer Additives product line consists of:
Akzo Nobel has recently developed a range of unique and versatile synthetic organoclays, marketed under the name PERKALITE®. The products are based on synthetically produced and organically modified layered double hydroxides (LDH). Upon compounding in polymers, Perkalite can be delaminated to nanoscale level, resulting in improved mechanical, flame retardant, barrier and rheological properties.
