Akzo Nobel provides a comprehensive range of organic peroxide initiators suitable for the production of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene-vinylacetate copolymers (EVA). We offer all standard peroxide types for both autoclave and tubular technologies.
Our organic peroxides can be divided into classes such as peroxyesters, diacyl peroxides, dialkyl peroxides, peroxy(di)carbonates, peroxyketals and one cyclic peroxide, Trigonox 301.
Peroxide activity
The most important criterion for initiator selection is activity, expressed by the initiator half-life. The half-life is the time required to reduce the orignal initiator content at a given temperature by 50%.
- Highly active peroxides for LDPE have a one hour half-life temperature below 100°C
- Medium active peroxides have a one hour half-life temperature in the range of 100-130°C
- Low active peroxides have a one hour half-life temperature above 130°C

R&D
Akzo Nobel has developed unique equipment in the Research & Technology Center Chemicals in Deventer (The Netherlands) that enables the study of organic peroxides at high temperature (300 °C) and high pressure (3000 bar). This equipment is used for the development of new, more efficient organic peroxides for the production of LDPE.
